J. Huete Greenhouses has successfully completed the construction of one of the largest and most significant greenhouse projects in Europe by 2024.
This ambitious project, covering fifteen hectares of Gothic style greenhouses, is dedicated to the sustainable hydroponic production of high quality tomatoes for the company Bonnysa. Located in the Region of Murcia, this project is set to become a benchmark for the Spanish agricultural sector.
The project, the result of collaboration between the engineering teams of J. Huete Greenhouses and Bonnysa, has impressive dimensions, with a height of 6 meters from the gutter and reaching 8.80 meters at the elevated ridge. They feature advanced butterfly top ventilation and perimeter ventilation on the sides and front, ensuring optimal climate control.
State-of-the-art equipment included in the project includes UV-protected plastic coatings in certain areas, motorized roll-up doors, energy-efficient screens, air conditioning systems and a complete electrical system. The gutters are coated with a white lacquer on a Magnelis base, which enhances luminosity and provides superior protection against rust. In addition, the arches and ventilation arms are also lacquered white to maintain proper temperatures and enhance the durability and gloss of the plastic cladding.
A prominent feature of this project is the hydroponic cultivation gutters suspended inside the greenhouse, equipped with a drainage collection system. This innovative configuration allows significant savings in irrigation water and fertilizer, ensuring the production of healthy, tasty and high quality tomatoes. This approach underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
As this innovative project moves forward in Spain, J. Huete Greenhouses continues to expand its presence around the world. At the same time, the company has been building greenhouses in Mexico for hydroponic strawberry production, a semi-enclosed plastic greenhouse in Colombia and two berry greenhouses in Australia for Driscoll’s.
Recently, J. Huete Greenhouses completed the construction of seed research greenhouses for Syngenta in South America, remodeled eight hectares of glass greenhouses for Planasa, built new research greenhouses for Rijk Zwaan and commissioned one of Europe’s largest technical greenhouses in Portugal for medical cannabis production.
This latest project in Europe not only highlights J. Huete Greenhouses’ expertise in greenhouse construction, but also reinforces its commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and innovation in the horticultural industry.
